Rob Mooney (3-1 Pro 10-1 Am) is one of The Matthew Wellington Group’s clients fighting out of Elizabethtown and Bowling Green Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo with MWG client Chad Corvin, among others. After wrestling on the collegiate level, Mooney helped prepare some of his teammates for MMA, a move that eventually brought him to the cage as well.

Training under Josh Johnson, who Mooney describes as “a great coach and a family member to the entire team”, Mooney added BJJ to his already strong wrestling base. “I train in Etown and Bowling Green because of the talent that surrounds me. Some of the best fighters in the region and a lot of great grapplers that don’t fight. Wrestling is my base but Jiu Jitsu is my building. I always want to find the submission.”

In addition to training others, fighting, and being a fan of MMA, Mooney also has the distinction of being one of the most experienced MMA referees in the nation, having refereed over 1,000 fights at events all over the state of Kentucky.

Although it is early in his professional career, Mooney has his sights set on a lucrative professional career. “I would love to make enough money to train and fight for a living. I work to pay the bills and give my son a better life. If I could do that by fighting, it would be a dream come true.”
