Rob Nickerson’s(2-1 pro, 6-2 am) career in MMA started like many other fighters today. Nickerson’s fight career started with boxing. A second place finisher in Golden Gloves with a 7-1 boxing record, Nickerson could have chosen to continue to successfully compete in that discipline, but he liked the challenges that mixed martial arts presented, and has since become a well-rounded fighter who can compete equally well standing or on the ground.

Having originally trained at another Lexington, KY gym, Nickerson started his own gym, Reaction MMA, where he currently trains with some of the state’s top amateur and professional fighters.

A Jorge Gurgel affiliate, Reaction MMA plays host not only to professional and amateur fighters, but a well-rounded clientele of all ages and experience levels. A brown belt under Gurgel, Nickerson’s own training skills are sought out by many. He acted as one of UFC fighter Rich Franklin’s primary training partners for Franklin’s preparation to fight Chuck Liddell at UFC 115. Nickerson has also trained and WEC fighter Urijah Faber and former UFC fighter Dean Lister as he constantly looks to learn and improve.

With an amateur MMA record of 7-2 the former Caged Inferno/AFL welterweight champion is poised to make his long-awaited professional MMA debut.

“Being a fighter is more than a career choice – it is my passion. I am a full time fighter. I enjoy all aspects of MMA. I look forward to being not only the best I can be, but also to be an ambassador for MMA. “

Nickerson has a solid support system in place. In addition to the numerous students and teammates that support his career, his family encourages him as well. “My family is very supportive of my choice to be a professional fighter. They understand the competitive fire that burns inside me.”
