Matt Metts

Matt Metts (1-0 pro, 7-0 am) is one of The Matthew Wellington Group’s clients training out of Reaction MMA, a Jorge Gurgel affiliate, under the tutelage of fellow MWG client Rob Nickerson.

I started working out with Rob and eventually began boxing in his garage. At this point, he was training for a fight, and I would grapple with him. After learning how to box under Rob, the competitive side of me wanted to compete, so I began sparring and preparing for my first fight. I have been at Reaction MMA since the beginning. I believe Reaction is the best gym in Kentucky. Rob provides the best instruction for prices that can’t be beat.

Metts has fought in both the welterweight and lightweight divisions, is the Bluegrass Bragging Rights amateur lightweight champion, and received his blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from Jorge Gurgel, a moment that Metts considers one of the greatest in his career.

Although Metts is comfortable on the ground in the cage, he prefers to keep the fight standing, wanting to keep the fight exciting and give the fans a good show. Wanting to make a career out of fighting, Metts is well on his way with the support of his team and family. Although skeptical initially, Metts quickly educated his family on the sport and they support his continued desire to compete.

Metts’s professional MMA career is quickly approaching, and the dedication with which he approaches training and fighting indicates he has what it takes to succeed at the highest levels of the sport.
