George Oiler

George Oiler (4-6 pro, 6-2 am) is one of the The Matthew Wellington Group’s clients fighting out of West Virginia MMA, a Jorge Gurgel affiliate, under Bryan Atterson.

A former wrestler, Oiler got his first exposure to MMA like many others – watching an early UFC event:

I was sitting on the couch watching a UFC pay-per-view and there was a wrestler on there [Tito Ortiz] taking his opponent down at will. I had been a wrestler in high school and thought “I can do that”. So I started researching things and found a local Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school.

Oiler (L) with Bryan Atterson after Oiler received his brown belt from Jorge Gurgel.

After starting his career with WVMMA, Oiler briefly worked with another camp before making his return to WVMMA, a Jorge Gurgel affiliate where he is an Assistant Instructor. Recently promoted to brown belt, Oiler’s dominant style in the cage shows his strong roots in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Working to make a career out of professional fighting, Oiler enjoys a strong family support, especially from his children who love the belts, medals and trophies that Oiler gives to them after his wins.

I love this sport, it is what makes me who I am, and it gives me the opportunity to test my skills against other gladiators. I work to make all of my fights memorable, and to not disappoint the fans, sponsors, or promoters.

Some of Oiler’s accomplishments include:

  • The first Intimidation Cage Fighting Light Heavyweight amateur champion
  • 2nd Ohio Grappling Challenge Purple Belt Absolute Champion
  • 1st Ground Zero Fighting Systems Open Purple Belt Heavyweight Champion
  • 1st Ground Zero Fighting Systems Open Advanced No Gi Heavyweight Champion
  • 2nd NAGA Ohio Light Heavyweight Masters Gi and No Gi Champion
