Chris Mierzwiak

Chris Mierzwiak (3-1 pro, 7-2 am) is one of The Matthew Wellington Group’s clients training and fighting out of the Jorge Gurgel MMA Academy in West Chester, OH.

Mierzwiak’s experience in combat sports started early, and after meeting Jorge Gurgel, Mierzwiak took his training to the next level.

I’ve wrestled since I was in 7th grade. During my junior year of high school I started watching The Ultimate Fighter and saw Jorge Gurgel and Rich Franklin on the show. After my first year of college I started going to a gym run by one of my old wrestling coaches. Jorge reffed my two fights over that summer and told me to check out his gym since it was close to my school. I’ve been there ever since. There are a lot of great fighters and coaches that train there and they have all become like family to me over the past few years. I have a wrestling background but I am trying to focus on becoming a well rounded fighter that excels in everything. I look up to my teammates like Jorge Gurgel, Rich Franklin, and Dustin Hazelett. I see the work ethic they have and try to imitate what they do so I can follow in their footsteps.

Mierzwiak recently graduated from Miami University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing, but for the time being, plans on making a career out of MMA. With his professional career off to a solid start and with the backing of Team JG, Mierzwiak is poised to do great things in the sport.
