Bellator Fighting Championship featherweight contender Daniel Straus (17-4) will return to action on March 9 in Hammond, Ind., where he’ll face undefeated prospect Jeremy Spoon (12-0) in the opening round of this season’s 145-pound tournament, airing live March 9 on MTV2. MWG has helped Straus get ready for this year’s competition, where he’ll look to build on a successful run that saw him reach the tournament final last year before losing a competitive decision to Patricio “Pitbull” Freire.
Straus is one of the favorites to win the tournament this year, with notable wins over WEC veteran Karen Darabedyan, Bellator competitors Kenny Foster and Nazareno Malegarie, and UFC vet Jason Dent. But his focus and workman-like training habits haven’t wavered with the additional attention.
“I think I’ll do great in this tourney,” Straus said. “I’ve been working really hard to get to where I am and succeed in this sport, and I believe this session I will prove that. To me there’s no doubt there’s a bunch of tough dudes in [the tournament], but I’m not looking past my opponent Jeremy Spoon. I think he’s expecting a grappling match that will play into his favor. I’m ready and willing to give him all that he can handle on the ground and on the feet.”
Plenty of media outlets have spoken with Straus about his upcoming fight. Check out the interviews below if you haven’t already.
